Does it have elevator trim tabs? or what am I looking at on the elevators?

The model 7 has a manual trim system and yes it has a trim tab on each side.

Are the trim tabs standard on SS 7's ? or was that something added by the builder. Looks like there's a slot in the forward dorsal for the stabilizer to travel vertically.

Guys,

This was the factory standard design when the S7 was first created.

The early S7's had manual trim tabs on the elevator rather than the electric jackscrew on the HS.

The trim control is shown in the cockpit console as a lever and it has a friction lock to establish the correct amount of "hold" on the trim.

On these aircraft, the jackscrew was replaced with a tube which has rod ends on the top and bottom - the rod ends are adjusted for rigging, not trim, and the slot you see is approximately half the depth of the slot on the KF with the electric jackscrew. The HS is fixed/does not move on this version. The slot only serves to slip the tail access plates onto each side. The original build manual shows a filler plate for this slot but most builders left this off.

Thanks for the info. Do you know when they switched from the manual trim tabs to the electric stab trim?

Brian,

When John Mc Bean purchased the bones of the defunct skystar co after its bankruptcy, John made certain engineering changes including the change on the S7 from the manual trim tabs to the electric jackscrew.

Can I suggest that all the trim tab discussion be moved to a separate thread - unfortunately Mikes ad is getting lost in all this other good info.

Done.
