My project is a model III it has had a few owners flew originally with a 582 was involved in a forced landing and was damaged. When I bought the aircraft it had a 912 in the mounts but never ran in this aircraft so I have a lot to do. I bought the builders CD from Kitfox which shows installing an IS box aft of the firewall my ignition system is the Ducati coil type is this IS box an upgrade of my system? Lots to LEARN.

Is it possibly the control box for the 912is engines?

I guessed Ignition System.
Very early Rotax 912 engines did mount the ignition modules and coils in a box located on the cockpit side of the firewall. The ignition wires ran through the firewall to the engine. I had one of these on my model 3. Not many Kitfox' were built with the ignition components mounted this way.
Now all ignition system components are mounted on the engine side of the firewall.

Below is a picture (not to good but the best I had in my collection) of my Ignition Module in my 1992 era 912 powered Kitfox 3. On the firewall in front of it is a row of the Ignition Wire penetrations. I did not have a picture of these... yet.

Yep, that is what mine looked like also and it was finished in 1991.
