I'm building a SS7 and installing the windshield. The directions say to cut the windshield skylight area flush with the sides of the butt rib. I was thinking it would be nice to leave 1/4" or so wider than the edge of the butt rib to cover the gap where the wing meets the butt rib. This way it may keep water out and look nicer. Have others done this? Any downfalls? Thanks

Good call,my 3 has nearly 1/2 an inch of overlap.
You may need to shim the skylight so the wings dont bind when folding.
A strip if anti chafe tape on the wings will protect the fabric.

Mike , I just happen to be standing by a 7SS and this builder has just over 3/8" overhang of the windshield past the butt rib.

Here is a photo of that overhang.

Many of us have done the overhang anywhere from 1/8" to 1/2". As Dusty says, the downfall is you must be extremly careful about how the wing slides in under it to avoid damaging the wing fabric, since it is normally a very tight fit. I used only about 1/8" overhang and tapered the edges of my plexiglass. Others have used shims, etc. to get enough clearance.

Thanks for all the responses. I left mine with a 1/4" overhang and I'm going to install 0.032" spacers to ensure I have clearance to the wing.

I appreciate all the help!
