I have a kitfox 5 vixen with smooth cowl. Will the rotax 914 turbo fit on the 912 engine mount and will the turbo clear the cowl? Any photos?

Do you have a model 5 firewall forward or a model7?

I don't think the model 5 firewall forward setup would accept a 914 .

I don't see why it wouldn't. A model 5 can take a 912 and the turbo is tucked in on the engine on the 914 and doesn't protrude away from the engine. Worst case, you may have to run a intake line to the air filter isn't sticking straight out the side. The 914 is a lot smaller than O-200s etc.

The person to ask would be John McBean.
There isnt much room in my Model 5 cowling with a 912 uls .
Doesn't the 914 reqire the rotax airbox?

I haven't seen one with an air box. My intake filter goes directly on the turbo.

That's an "airbox" connected to the carburetors that the turbo feeds, isn't it?

Ah, I always think of airbox for intake air.
The 912ULS has a similar manifold. I'm not an expert on this. I just know my turbo set up doesn't add much to the size as it is tucked in underneath.

It was the carb air box that I was talking about . On my model 5 with a 912ULS there is no carb air box , no room for it , just filters on the carbs. The factory might have an engine mount for the model 5 that fits the older shorter cowl.
I would upgrade to a new 7 type mount and cowl (with the boot cowl) and put on the larger elevator. Especially if it was a new build.

I just took a look at Gizmos picture album.
It looks like a rotax ring mount / engine mount on it already (possibly 7 setup). So maybe the 914 might work without many issues.
Here is a picture of my model 5 original engine mount firewall forward. It is crowded !

Anything can be done.. The 914 on the Series 5 Smooth cowling would be a challenge at best. The S5 smooth cowling requires the intake manifolds to swap sides.. Not something you can easily do on the 914.
The Series 7 FWF will work on the 5 and the 914 fits great.
It appears you have the Series 7 cowlings in the picture..

Wow! Tight fit for sure. Reminds me of my buddies Pitts.
Another option if you are set on a 914 is to go fuel injected. It adds economy and performance while eliminating the traditional manifold that goes to the carbs. Probably cheaper than a new FWF set up.
