Does an uncertified Rotax 912UL engine on an amateur built plane have to comply with Airworthiness Directives?

What's the long answer? Just kidding. I thought the answer was no as well. I am attaching a pdf document that makes some really good points, specifically quoting the FAR's. Very interesting.
