Has anyone had any dealings with The Ultralight Place in Kankakee IL? I just sent them an email to see if they would meet me on a Saturday. But I was wondering how they are to work with? I need my 582 grey head completely gone through after setting for ten years.
Thanks,
Jay

I just thought I would post an update. I received an invoice for my overhaul that was a page and a half long. OUCH! But, to be honest, it was within $58 of what I thought it would be. And that made the wife happy. It was $3058.00. Now, before all you guys that burn up a 582 every two years and pay $1500 for an overhaul get all worked up, this engine has sat open to the elements for ten years without running once. The crank was junk and the pistons were way out of spec. They were .010" piston to wall clearance! And that bill included two carb overhauls. I pick it up this Saturday, so I'll post photos later. I'm told it's very pretty now that it's not covered in bird crap!

I picked up the engine today. I could not believe what my engine looks like! It is beautiful!!! Jim must have been bored or felt sorry for me or something. My engine now has polished carb bowls, engine mounts, and ignition wire bracket!!!! I dropped off a bird crap covered mess of aluminum and I brought home an engine that belongs in a show plane. And he took lots of time to make sure I knew how to set up the carbs and went over the Rotax run in procedure with me in detail. In fact I got a fantastic lesson on the assembly, care, and feeding of the carbs. Priceless!

Highly recommended!!! Five stars.

What is the book spec, like 60lbs? Maybe less. Check out these photos.

Wow. You should make the cowling out of plexiglass so you can show that off.

Holy Crap! Are you sure they gave you back the right engine? Better check the serial #.

You might put a piece of duck tape over the exhaust ports to keep moist air and anything else out if it is going to be a while before you install the exhaust. You don't want to put a rag or anything in the ports to seal them up. Someone will come along and turn the output shaft. The piston will cut it off.

Yeah, he tried that trick on me. He walked up to my engine on the stand and said this couldn't be mine...it's too nice looking. I couldn't believe it! I had to pinch myself to make sure I wasn't dreaming!

If the inside is as pretty as the outside you got your money worth. Very nice!

The exhaust ports are covered with aluminum tape and the carbs are plugged. I have rubber stoppers for the holes behind the gearbox. As sealed up as I can get it!
