I finally put together a video from my last day of ski flying last year

I guess there is no way to embed videos?

Nick,
Very nice. Looks like a lot of fun. I like your ending, too, giving thanks to God. I feel the same way.

I agree with Sky Steve. Since I just recently got mine converted to a tail Dragger, with the gusty cross winds we have been having and after some really bad landings because of the cross winds, I have had to be really persistent at thanking God for surviving the cross winds. Great video, but tooooooooo cold for me.

Thanks guys I took an hour and half of video down to 7:15. The editing takes time. This is my second time editing with lots to learn. I wish I would have recorded some of my trips last summer. This year I'm going to strap on the Gopro and try to get some more footage. Really it's one more thing to do. I barely have enough time to fly as it is.

I have to ask, where does one find skis for a Kitfox?

I believe you can still get skis right from Kitfox. Otherwise, there's Airdale, Dave Fisher makes some nice straight skis (he's a member here DaveS), and a multitude of other sources for widely varying costs...

Mine are from Airdale. Check my YouTube videos.

The set I have are Federal 1500s. They were made in the 1940's you can find them on ebay, barnstormers, or craigslist. If you do find a set of 1500s make sure you get a left and a right. The socket in the pedestal is set at a slight angle to allow for camber. For where I live there not ideal as the snow comes and goes.

Datum makes a nice set of retract skis but they are spendy. I think airdale had a set that was better than a wheel penetrating ski as far as drag goes. The ski sat to the side of the wheel. I think av8r3400 has a set for his kitfox.

I have a set of penetrating skis I would consider selling. I think they would be pretty draggy. I've never used them.

Nick,
You scared the hell out of me, I thought for sure you were going to kiss the skis off the ice pack and touch and go. LOL Awesome display of altitude control also, flying down the lake. Very well done. And AMEN to the ending. All of this is a gift, and we do well to remind ourselves of that often.

I have skis on order from Airedale. They should be here any day now.

Hopefully they are the wheel thru design :D
I don't feel we get enough snow to utilize them.
Oh wait, you are preparing for a winter like we had last year?

How do they work with the tire rigged out so far into the snow?

I have mine rigged with 1/2-3/4" of tire extending below the face of the ski. I inflate the tires to 25 psi when the skis are on.

Airedale. Yes, He is building them for my Nanco 21 inchers.
This is not a picture of my skis. It is a picture that Brett sent me to show how he is making my skis. I'm thinking it may be AV8R's skis in the picture. he had me send him several pictures of my plane and landing gear and measurements so he can make them to fit. I will have to finish them when I get the kit. Planning to powder coat the steel instead of paint then instal the bases.
