I have light corrosion around the thread that stocks out the end of the lift strut on my kf3. Is this a removable thread or a threaded plug.

on the IV the top end of the strut threads are the adjustable rod end

Sounds the same,a female rod end on a male thread.iwould like to replace both.i only have a drawing in my assembly instructions which don't give details. An old thread in this forum leads me to believe it is replaceable,I may have the wrong end of the stick!

The threaded rod is welded to the strut.

Post a photo of the corrosion. Maybe just a little clean up is all that's needed.

I will post a photo when I figure how to post online.
The corrosion is only surface.I had an ac engineer take a look ,he wasn't overly concerned but recommended a cleanup &crack test. His concern was how the thread was formed, If it was machined rather than rolled? There is potential for a crack to form.If the threaded portion is replaceable ,easy fix.His suggestion is to convert to a threaded plug with a male rod end.
Has this been done by any any builders?

Kitfox uses a welded in AN fitting like this: Link (http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/appages/an490.php)

These are NOT a cut thread.

In the "bad old days" Avid used a welded in socket head cap screw for some threaded rod ends. Not strictly by the FAA Book, but functional. Still they were a rolled, not cut thread.

They seem to have sort of a black oxide finish, and look a lot like they may be common threaded rod - hopefully Grade 8. They sure don't look like those plated AN490 rod ends. Anybody know for sure?

Actually, I believe I was thinking of the horizontal tail struts... sorry!
