Quick question. I need to pull my wheel and tire assy for tire replacement. From what I can see, besides the lug nuts I also need to remove the allen screws and safety wire from the brake discs (so that they become free and stay with the caliper) or is there another option here?

That's what I do. If there's something easier, I'm not aware of it.

Remove the allen screws from the brake disc. Then pop the cover and remove the castle nut with cotter pin on the axle. The brake caliper will stay with the gear.

Perfect. Many thanks for the quick replies on this.

Another question for you. These are split rims, or do they just look like split rims and are now permanently fused? These are the original 6 bolt Douglas wheels.

When changing a tire... the rim stays as one piece? Mine won't come apart though I have not tried very hard.

The Douglass 8" ATV wheels are NOT split wheels.

The six bolts are there to hold them to the hub, not to hold halves together.

simple operation. jack it

3 SHCS holding on rotor to wheel remove

dust cap
cotter pin
castle nut
slide off axle

I leave hub on to change tires but you are best to take to ATV shop or tire guy if you having trouble getting a wheel off -- Tire is challenging on beadlock style wheels

FWIW, just did the same and went to the NANCO 21x12x8's and love them! Got the 16" tires off myself by breaking the bead in a large vice with a ratchet strap over the tire and under the jaw. A little muscle work, but very doable. Let the tire guys mount the new rubber and add new stems. This may go without saying, but of course you should clean inspect and repack your wheel bearings before reassembly.
