Kit arrival

SS7 Kit arrived today! Will start inventory check tomorrow. Not sure when actual building will start but studying instructions will begin immediately. :)

Reading the manual, prepairation for the next step like building wing jigs, & even cleaning the workshop is all a very crucial part of the building process. You can do quality work without adequate preparation. Have fun building. I wish I was 10 years younger and I had the time to build my own Kitfox.

Congratulations SF! Exciting times. As others suggested to me, make sure you clearly catalogue where you store all the little parts in boxes as you check off the inventory - it can save heaps of time later when rummaging around for bits!

when you're done with your inventory.... let me know how long dose it take and how did you classify your parts

My kit was delivered in 1994 and believe it or not, I still have the boxes. I think I may be the only builder that bought the complete Classic 4 kit with the 503 engine. The factory had just discontinued the XL and I think they put all the leftover XL parts in my crate along with all the classic 4 parts.

Anyhow, there were duplicates of lots of rivets, camlocks, rod ends and such. I kept the boxes and whenever I buy parts, especially buy something that won't be used until I do the condition inspection, it goes in the proper box. Also old hardware like wing strut and landing gear bolts and nuts goes in a sandwich bag labeled "Used strut attach", etc. and then into the part box.

I can find anything I need later in just a minute.

I kept all the kit parts in the same boxes they arrived in. All these boxes are marked with a letter and/or number. The inventory sheets that you use to inventory the parts have the box number on them for each part. Any part can be found quickly by going to these sheets and getting the box code. Anyway, I found no need to reorganize or reclassify any parts; just do the inventory to make sure all is there and then get right to work.
