Hi Guy's
This is my first post here so hello to everyone. I am currently dealing on a Kitfox model 1 fuselage and parts. The current owner says that he has not noticed a s/n on the fuselage anywhere. Where should it be located? I want to make sure that the fuselage is genuine Kitfox as well as being lien free.
Thanks in advance for the help.
Kurt

first , welcome aboard . the sn location will very with models even with the same model from year to year . mine is a model IV and I've never been able to locate the sn . on the model IV it's supposed to be either on the tab above the bag bin where the center seat belt straps attach or on a triangle piece of metal at the front of the horizon stab , i think the front , been awhile . I'm not sure if they put on the sn before they powder coat , but mine was powder coated and painted when I acquired the kit so I've never scrapped it off to check . hasn't been a problem as the dar didn't need to see it for the a/w inspection .

Thanks for the help guy's.
So far no luck in finding the S/N. Any other places we should be looking? The frame has been sandblasted and repainted. Was the serial number originally stamped or etched?

Mine is etched on a small plate

Steve,
Do you have a photo of what it looks like and it's location?

I'm setting here looking at the two pics. Does anyone else see or not see them? Am I really here? Am I just a figure of my mind, a pour soul lost in space drifting farther and farther from you all????

Edit: I just double checked them on my iPhone and computer. I still see two pics on both.

No problem seeing the photos for me. I think what the OP is looking for is where on the welded fuselage cage he can find the SN on an early model.

Nothing on the welded fuselage cage on mine.

Now that is just Bizarre! I can see the pics just fine with my home computer. Wonder if the work computer was blocking the pic?

That is correct. I am looking for the s/n on the welded cage.

Pics are there, Steve, but I think Kurt is looking for the fuselage serial number stamped into the tubing from Kitfox.

I thought that number was stamped into the front spar carry through tube, but can't say for sure.

Kurt,
If one looks up the N number on the FAA records the serial number is listed. I think you are in Canada? Have you looked up your registration number to see if it lists your serial number?

The airframe that I am looking at is for sale. I have not bought it yet, the only thing holding me back is confirming that the welded frame is actually a Kitfox and that it is lien free. The current owner purchased it in the states and was in it's current state (striped down for a total rebuild). Yes I am in Canada.

Thanks, I will get the guy to look closer in this area.

I had a data plate made for mine, and riveted in the "FAA Standard" location of port side, below the horizontal stab. I had your same problem, couldn't find it ANYWHERE, so knowing what it was, I believe I bought it from Aircraft Spruce for 10 bucks or so, and had it engraved at the local trophy shop. Total investment, including rivets and backing plate, MAYBE 20 bucks.

Can anyone help decipher this Kitfox serial number - C0203-0278? I think it's a Lite Squared, but want to be sure.

Thanks in advance.

C = Classic 4
0203 = came out of the factory in March of 2002
0278 = the 278th kit. I can't remember if it is that month, that year or total number of kits.

Here's another example:
I have C9705 0194
The original invoice from Skystar is dated 05/28/97.
It's described as a Classic 4 with quick-build wings, powder coat and a few other options came in at $12,694.03 which shows a $1,000.00 discount and the shipping is not included. I have not been able to find the serial number stamped on the airframe.
I'd be interested in knowing how this serial number fits into the overall rolling total. At the time this Model 4 was purchased Skystar was offering the model 5 and apparently selling 4's and 5's during this period.

Mine is C-9408-0047. It is stamped on the rear side of the triangle the horizontal stab attaches to. I ordered the kit in May of 1994 and it was built in August and delivered to me in September.

The Model 4 1200 was discontinued when the Series 5 was introduced in 1994. The factory was still getting requests for the Model 4 so they put it back into production renamed the Classic 4. Although you will see the kitfox History lists the Classic 4 as beginning in 1991, I don't think so. Those were Model 4 1200s. The Classic 4s are the same but different;)

Looking at the other two Classic 4 numbers posted above I would say the last 4 digits are a running total of The Classic 4s.
