Wow! I just don't know what to say. My plane is in both of those several times! Certainly has been a good plane to me! She's taken me places I would have never gotten to experience.

Very nice! Is the speedster the only one you can do rolls with? Because of the shorter wing?

No. My model 4 with long wings rolls fairly quickly.

Roll a IV with folding wings?!?! I would have never thought it possible. I have not flown mine yet, but every time I look at that single bolt at the leading edge holding everything together I wonder "what if...".

Do not fear the folding wings, they have been around for a long time.

Fun watching the promotional videos.
Brings back good memories.

I was hooked on Kitfox performance the first time I saw 84DD flown by Dan. D. at Oshkosh '84'.

I wore out two VHS tapes over the following 5 year period dreaming of owning one someday.:)

The "Star" of those VHS tapes was the world famous 85DD. It's performance on wheels, skis and floats firmly set the hook for low cost, high performance aviation. I'm quite sure it hooked many pilots.

A few factory fly-ins ago I got a chance to fly 85DD thanks to SkySteve.
That was a fun 20 minutes and a chance to experience the early Kitfox era.
It's been fun watching our little Kitfox grow up over the years.

From 84DD to the latest 7 series Super Sport, they've never lost that fun factor.

One of the lines from the early videos always asked-" What are you waiting for?"

Well?;)

I still have my VHS tape, poster and info kit from waaay back in the 80's. Drag them out every so often and relive the beginning of the dream. Now I can go fly the real thing and it feels sooo good.

They made posters?!!!!

If you have a good camera or a newer phone, take a good pic of it, PLEASE!

I'm sure we would like to see some of the advertisement materials made back in the day.

I wonder if there are any digital conversions of that VHS tape anywhere? hmmmm.

Of course there are - we all just watched them on YouTube. You can copy them.

So Steve, how many total hours are on 85DD now? I took my first ride in the factory demo in 1985. Started to borrow the money to purchase a kitfox three different times over the years but talked myself out of it. If I couldn't pay cash, I wouldn't buy it. Two years into my build and I am debt free! Today, I am closer to flying than I was yesterday. What a journey!! :D

Being debt free is well worth the effort. I did the same thing and got to retire early. You will not regret it! Hope you are enjoying building your Kitfox.

Stan,
In plane years, 85DD is still a pup! She got her AW in 1986. Total Time on Airframe is now 1,337 hours. In 1999 a Rotax 912A 80 HP was installed which now has 678 Total Time on it. I've put close to 400 of those hours on the engine.

Yeah, beautiful, ain't it?
In my pre-buying stage I met a guy that went to the manufacturer (we live in the Netherlands...) and got this video on VHS.
I sort of saw it by coincidence - but it surely got the seed of greed growing!
And now I have build one myself.
Unbelievable, undiscribable.

Absolutely beautiful! I've been watching that for years and never get tired of it. Some of you might remember back in the 90's when Denny Aircraft sent out some VHS out to subscribers of this version of Jimmy Franklin's performance. Needless to say, after seeing the routine, I was hooked!

What a routine Jimmy Franklin flew. No neck breaking tumbling or out of control manuevers, just plain old smooth positive G flying and graceful control.

Hi guys, saw the talk about rolling the model 4 and the jimmy franklin video, he was one heck of a stick and a great showman and has been missed. As far as rolling the 7ss it rolls about like a citabria without spades. That being said do not try to roll any airplane without getting some aerobatic training and fully understanding the proper control inputs and entry speeds. A poorly executed roll can turn into red line or better air speeds and engine over speed. Aerobatics are a lot of fun and will help you understand the full use of all the controls in the airplane, but a botched maneuver can be very dangerous. A great read for me is a book by mike goulan from a,s, named basic aerobatics. I have read and reread this book many times not just for understanding the maneuvers but for the great stories. Hope this helps. Please fly safe!
