I searched the engine forum for any links to this new range of engines after seeing discussions on the Rans site. I have no idea about them apart from thinking that it is our collective interests to look at any interesting alternatives.

Here are a couple of links to get started:

I saw them at Oshkosh... a nice looking engine. It has some relatively unique features. They were looking for a possible distributor in the U.S. and they are available in Canada now, if I remember correctly. I think the Canadian dealer was the father-in-law of the designer. It's still a relatively new engine with few if any examples in this country. It is being manufactured/assembled by a very large/well-known company (which is so well known that I can't remember the name of it now). They were saying it was selected by the current makers of the Bush-caddy? Geez... I can't remember anything anymore. I guess I'll give up. Anyway, the website you posted the link to gives that info.

Dumb, but happy...

The thing is though - they all weigh the same, so if I were to put that weight in, I'd go for as much HP at that same weight. SO instead of 115, you'd have 150HP - problem is that now costs $33,234 - OUCH and you're still a test pilot:(.

There are only a few examples flying. I put this one on the back burner for the following reasons:

1) Not enough history.
2) "Composite" crankshaft - cold pressed - not sure of materials, some pages and articles say carbon steel, some allude otherwise.
3) Gear reduction - not clear - some places say helical gear, some say electro/hydraulic.
4) Not thrilled about fuel burn.
5) Not sure about max. sustained rpm.
6) Price (out of whack Euro exchange rate).
