We finally got the engine mount designed, calculated and welded. We probably over designed it an it came out a bit heavy (an extra lb)

That's awesome! Nicely done!

Where are you going with the oil tank?
Are you planning on the smooth or round cowl?

We intend to use the round cowl but it does not fit because we moved the engine about 4" forword.

Great Job.....I think you are going to like it....everything I have heard about the iS is that it exceeds expectations....particularily on fuel burn.

you should be able to split the cowl and stretch it ..

That is the plan. Hope we will succeed.

If you split it closest to the windscreen you will maintain the lines/taper from nose cowl back

I would follow the arc of the windscreen about 3" in front of it then down to the bottom to the lower corner, re hang everything the take some thin aluminum and wrap it in caran wrap and cleco it to the inside filling the gap, then prep your edges to except a layer or 2 of fiber cloth and saturate the cloth, lay it on the outside over lapping the edges , let it set up good, remove it from the plane then a couple layers inside, once its renforced good on the inside then i would clean up the outside and finish, if your going to do the finish work with it on the plane, slide a big trash bag over the engine first before putting the cowl back on to finish

Remove the aluminum before doing the inside, it should pull right off easily

Thanks for the advise.
Wrongly I was thinking of spliting both top and bottom cowls at the same point. Now I think I will extend the 2 flat sides of the bottom cowl and pobably split the top cowl just in front of the windscreen arc.

Like Chase is describing(I think), about at the blue line is where I probably should have split it to make the compound curve much easier to deal with, but it worked out good enough in the end. Lots of sanding and filling. I also just added to the bottom half instead of stretching it. I think much easier. I pretty much did what Chase described to fill in the the opening. Then sanded off the gel coat about 1 inch in and glassed each side so when built back up everything would be the same level and thickness.

yes about where the blue line is or the compound curves will be a pain to deal with,..yours looks good George especially with the smooth cowl having more convex curves on the top narrowing in and dropping down,..the bump cowl is less pronounce in dropping down toward the prop but still does narrow in on the sides
