We are going to be heading south to NBAA in Vegas followed by Copperstate in Casa Grande AZ...leaving Sunday morning and looking for a new breakfast or brunch stop en-route. Most likely going to head towards St George then towards Vegas... Any suggestions???

Hey John, not really what you asked for but we are having our monthly potluck BBQ at the FBO here at Sky Ranch Estates (3L2 just south west of McCarran ) tomorrow Eve., Plenty of food, and you could use my truck to tour with. My house is nothing to write home about but your welcome to stay here also.

Before Vegas? I think Jackpot's it!

After Vegas? Our place! (Same place it was last time.)

We're gonna hafta get SkySteve & Company to chime in here for a better idea of what's available in his neck 'o the woods, but I can't recall anything available enroute to St George. I'm thinkin' eating at airports must be against the law in Utah! Personally, I'd stop at a Subway shop enroute to S66 before take-off! ;)

I can't think of a single airport cafe south of the Caldwell/Nampa area except for that casino row in Jackpot until you hit the Vegas area. South of there is Kingman, but the last time I dropped in there the airport cafe had closed...there's a lot of that going around!

After Kingman it's nothing until KGEU and our place and...we're open! :)

Just give us a ring!

DF6, did someone call for me?

Utah not eating? Ha, Ha! Just look at all the fat people in Utah. When I moved here there were lots of fine looking women, now most of them are fat. Wait a minute, I've gotten off track...again.

Stop by Ogden, KOGD. Class Delta with a very friendly tower. Right on your way. I'd even join you, and would love to. The "Augar In" is THE place at the airport. We have three restaurants to choose from but the pilots eat at the Augar In. It's located in the terminal at the base of the tower. I might even get Kris to join us.

You would probably want to eat and run, but if you had a few minutes, on your way south I could join you in ol' 85DD for a quick fly-over of Antelope Island in the Great Salt Lake to scare up the herd of wild buffalo.

Want a quick tour of the tower? We can arrange that, too. Need fuel? Yep, got it. Need to just eat & run? No problem. Want bright sunshine and light winds? Already on the schedule!

Just give me a call or text from the air with an approx time and I'll be waiting on the ramp with a smile. 801- seven 9 one - four 777

Thanks for coming to the culinary rescue, SkySteve; I'd really hate to see our favorite aircraft manufacturing duo show up all emaciated-looking for such an auspicious occasion as the Copperstate. (With all the running-around they've done so far this year I'm pretty sure that may be their natural state anymore so we can't risk any unnecessary fasting enroute to the feast-fest down here!)

Ogden is now highlighted on my AAA (Association of Aviation Avoirdupois ) wallchart for future reference; thank you very much, kind sir!

The question crossed my mind but only briefly (it's not that broad to begin with, you know) as to what may be on the bill of fare of this august establishment, but, upon reviewing your comments, I'd have to speculate the inhabitants of Antelope Island must be prominently featured thereon! ;)

Bon Appetit!

Ah yes, the bill of fair. Breakfasts include your choice of an assortment of pancakes, omelettes, bacon & eggs with toast, waffles, Indian fry bread etc etc, all in the general cost range of $7 to $9 each. Lunch is served as a burger, salads, various hot and cold sandwiches, a Utah Mexican specialty, soups, most with fries or tater tots, each for the low low price of $8 to $12, and always provided with an optional side salad for only $1 more. Just don't come late (after 2 PM) for you will find them closed, out scouting the local roadways in search of tomorrow's "special"!:D

Oh yea. Feeling good. Been out flying today!!

It all sounds wundermunchable to me and KOGD is now on my radar for future soirees up yonder. But I'm still a bit curious as to if one of the lunch burgers featured might perhaps be called the "Antelope Island Special." ;)

No no no! No buffalo burgers, just a few flies. You've got to travel to the island cafe for the buffalo burger. No airstrip, plenty of places to land, far too many state badges on shirts to land. Oh, and the flies aren't just your ordinary house flies on the island. They're Brine flies. Very very very small and they like to fly into your ears, nose and eyes. They get into your airplane, crawl into your headset ear covers, wait for you to take off and then attack! Many a pilot has taken off from an island then you see his plane fly wildly all over the sky while the pilot flies with his knees, taking off his headset to empty the little fighter flies from their hiding place, reposition his headset and open the doors trying to find a way to exit them from the plane. Oh yea, nothing but fun flyin' here in the land of Zion!

John? Debra? You guys payin' attention to this?

The native connoisseur, aka SkySteve, highly recommends the OGD airport cafe; order anything you like but avoid the beach and badges (remember Bahama?) and don't drink the water. I think he mentioned "brine."

Oh...and hold the flies...:D

Hey John! I should have been more specific and said the BBQ was Sat. eve. but you and anyone else are always welcome here at 3L2. My truck can be used for your ground transportation and my house for a motel room. I'll even pay for a meal. Tie down at my house is free and the drive to the strip in Vegas is only 45 minutes.
Closest avgas is at Jean,0L7, self serve $5.23.

Well, that's another year in the bag!

We landed at our home drome, Glendale, AZ (KGEU) exactly an hour ago, 1300 PST, after a grueling 40 minute flight from the Copperstate Fly-In in Casa Grande, AZ (KCGZ); tucked 427ET into the hangar after a leading-edge rubdown and spent the next grueling nine minutes driving home: WHAT A DAY!

After unpacking the dirty laundry, which included some lingerie neither of us would own up to, I clicked open the link John McBean placed in his 20 October entry on this thread, only to find THEY had arrived at Homedale only 15 minutes earlier! After a 0630 launch in the Arizona desert and one pit-stop in Mesquite, Nevada, they were back on Homedale, Idaho's world famous S66 "alert pad" safe and sound.at 1445 PST!

Who in'a'hell says Kitfox isn't a GREAT cross-country machine!? ;)

And a "grande" time it was again with the local DFS crowd and associated Kitfox nobility (did you know Paul Leadabrand can change a light bulb all by himself? In a vaulted ceiling! How does he fit into a Kitfox?) gathered around the same round table in "Duke's Bar" (if ya ever want a six-foot painting of John Wayne for your living room, I know where you can steal an awesome one!) at the Francisco Grande. I could happily live forever, one year to the next, even if that was the only event I had to look forward to each year.

Thank you one and all, Kitfox dealers, dreamers and doers, for making this another great end to the annual EAA airshow season.

"E.T." & Dee
P.S. My cell phone just rang (NS!)...it was John & Debra calling us to "close their flight plan!" Any wonder why we love those two so much?

E.T., thanks for the update. I just checked John's SPOT page and yes indeed he is home. The SPOT sends out a signal approx every 10 minutes and I noticed there was no footprint from south of I-80 to Homedale which confirms your comment about the Kitfox's cross country abilities. My very rough estimate of that distance is approx 250-300 miles, covered in approx 10 minutes! My calculations are rusty at the speed required to cover that distance in 10 minutes, but I believe it equates to a whopping average speed of approximately mach 2.5! which may well be a new Kitfox cross country record!

Now about the John Wayne picture, are you available for a heist and delivery black opps opportunity?

DesertFox6
10-27-2013, 09:19 PM
Yeah, I noticed the same conspicuous gap in the SPOT breadcrumb trail too, SkySteve, and thought it odd until I remembered that their groundtrack ran right smack-dab through the Jarbridge and Owyhee Military Operating Areas (MOAs) in northern Nevada and southern Idaho. That explained everything.

Supersonic flight IS authorized in MOAs, so no harm, no foul and "TA-DAA!" mystery solved!

You need to come visit Copperstate with us next year, Dude; I counted 11 Kitfoxes over the three-day period, mostly "contemporary" models, but while our "classic" (IV) division was amply conspicuous we need to have the "antique" division better represented...there was a PERFECT spot right next to DF4's bird all weekend, right out front of the Kitfox Kompany Kiosk, that 85DD would have looked MAAH-VEL-US in! :)

"E.T."
(Up for black ops all the time but you're gonna have to fly the heist outta here! The Francisco Grande Resort staff knows all the rest of us on sight!:o

I would love to do the Coperstate Fly-In. Just haven't been able to work out the schedule so far. Maybe next year.

I'll be in Mesa on Halloween, then on to Sedona on Sat for a week, back to Phoenix and Salt Lake on 11/9-10.

About the Antique Division. If you're referring to my plane, I prefer the term Kitfox Beta. If you're referring to its pilot, well then I guess antique fits! Ha, ha!
