Press Release: MGL Avionics Launches iEFIS Challenger 10.4" Touchscreen

For Immediate Release

07/29/2013, Oshkosh, Wisconsin - MGL Avionics is proud to announce the release of the iEFIS Challenger 10.4" Touchscreen. The Challenger is the big brother of the 8.5" Explorer that has been sold for the last year. The Challenger features a bright 2000 nit resistive touchscreen display that is setup specially for use in the cockpit. It responds to 'pushes' helping to avoid unintentional taps and swipes in turbulence. The Challenger is a full featured flight, engine, fuel and navigation instrument. Challenger screens can be mixed with any other iEFIS screens (such as the Explorer), with a total of 8 screens possible. All screens connect to the 'iBox', which is the heart of the iEFIS system, handling all pitot/static, GPS and signal processing as well as communication with all devices via the reliable CAN network.

The iEFIS Challenger also features MGL Avionics' unique level of customizability. All screens can be completely customized by the user if desired, and up to 4 engine boxes (RDACs) can be used allowing multi-engine displays, or satisfying almost any unique requirement.

The Challenger goes on sale in late July 2013.

XTreme Firmware Update - Autopilot

We have a major recommended firmware update for your XTreme!

This update includes multiple enhancements to the XTreme EFIS (so we recommend it for all) and finally, after a long wait, we have the first BETA release of the XTreme Autopilot.

Latest US Navidata file (http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?e=001_h1uKtPDSU_RGrV5H53ty5RMEUFpJaGqWeaxvJ 96SzXN-Gey6bzvWAjip-Vl6PHiTzqB_TrUNvxNrOkaoeUVBaDMnUkiyBShHA7LYfmFopdT 1ONn_T4gK3USEEttv8ZextZog9T0GA8=) (Download this to SD card root)

Version 1.31 Update Notes:
PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS A BETA/EXPERIMENTAL VERSION. USE THE AUTOPILOT WITH CAUTION.

We are releasing this version prior to the completion of the documentation. The XTreme follows the same autopilot menus/settings as other MGL Avionics EFIS systems.

Here are some quick pointers:
Once you have setup the autopilot under the autopilot setup
Press the rotary control and access the autopilot preflight to do a test of the servos before flying (This menu item is only shown if you have a bank or pitch servo installed)
Press the 2nd button from the right to access the small autopilot sub menu (Only valid when the EFIS screens are shown). This will display the following:

EXIT BUGS WPT OFF.

EXIT: Exits the autopilot submenu,
BUGS: Press bugs to engage and instruct the autopilot to fly to the Altitude and heading bug. The bugs can be adjusted as desired
WPT: (Shown if a waypoint has been selected) will instruct the autopilot to fly to the selected waypoint using the current altitude.
ON/OFF: to turn the autopilot on/off

If the autopilot is engaged then a red AP will appear in the upper left corner of the EFIS displays

Notes for if you are upgrading from version 1.08 or below:

Please write down all settings BEFORE upgrading your XTreme to the latest version as the XTreme needs to be reset to factory defaults (New versions now include a save/recall settings function for future upgrades)
After upgrading the XTreme to the latest firmware version please load default settings and re-enter all previous recorded settings.

Normal Upgrade Instructions (1.09 and above):

Turn XTreme on and in the MENU under MISC SETUP select SAVE SETTINGS TO SD CARD. This will save a copy of your settings to SD card. Turn XTreme off.
Copy XTreme.fw file onto SD card root and insert SD card into XTreme EFIS
Turn XTreme on
An UPGRADE option will appear. Select this option. XTreme firmware will be updated.
Once update is finished turn XTreme off and then turn on again while holding the 2 outer buttons. The screen will display LOAD FACTORY DEFAULTS and the factory default settings will load.
Then, go into the MENU and under MISC SETUP select RECALL SETTINGS FROM SD CARD and your previous settings will be reinstalled.
On next restart you will have the option to Delete the Firmware File from your SD card so that you no longer get prompted to upgrade. Select Delete.
Done!
