Early tomorrow morning I am "wheels up" for a weekend in the Idaho Backcountry. I plan to camp Friday evening at Smiley Creek, Saturday evening at Johnson Creek and come home Sunday. During my time I will be explorying as many new strips as I can. There will be approx 50 backcountry pilots based at Johnson Creek and I will be joining them. I just got a new SPOT tracker so if you would like to "ride along" here's my Spot Page Link: Kitfox85DDSpotAdventurePage (http://fms.ws/Cdyc)

Also, here is the link for the on-site web cam at Smiley Creek (maybe you will see me!) :Smiley Creek Web Cam (http://lb.511.idaho.gov/idlb/cameras/camera.jsf?id=81)

And here is the link for the on-site web cam at Johnson Creek (Watch for my guest appearance on Saturday!): Johnson Creek Web Cam (http://www.ruralnetwork.net/~yellowpinecm/)

Photos and videos when I return.

Have a fun and safe flight Steve. Great place to be this time of year.
Watch the density altitudes if it gets warm in the afternoon. Just got off the phone with John at Kitfox ordering some parts and he said the weather was nice but expecting some warmer days. I'll be sure to check in on your Spot link.
110 degrees here in Phoenix today.

Someday, in the not too distant future, I will make it out there to the Johnson Creek Fly-In.

I think it would need to be a two-week trip...

May have a small change in plans. My neighbor, with a Bearhawk, was going. He just called and cancelled so I may not stop at Smiley Cr (been there before with the Kitfox group) and just press on to McCall for fuel then to Johnson Cr to meet up with the Bro's.

DesertFox4, I'll be watching the DA. Should be high. I'll be on the ground back at Johnson Cr at a reasonable time.

AV8R3400, I'll take lots of photos for you!

The link to Steves Spot page is not working. Anyone know the correct link? Maybe Steve just hasn't powered his Spot up yet?

The latest information is that it was a mid-air, at low altitude near the threshold of the runway.

A Baron and a Tripacer per the FAA release, witnesses are saying it was an Arrow and a Tripacer.

Update: I'm stuck at Smiley Cr for the night. FAA closed Johnson Creek before I got there. Oh well, at least they have Internet here.

I've heard from several that the "bread crumb" feature of my SPOT page isn't working. Don't know why. I didn't have time to test it before the trip. I probably did something wrong when setting it up.

Hey, Kitfox 85DD is in the Smiley Cr webcam, next to the yellow plane.

More later...

Nice videos and photos of your trip Steve. Thanks for all the edit time and sharing with us.
Always fun flying along with you albeit vicariously through my computer monitor.;):)

I wasn't able to get your Spot tracking to work for this trip.:(
Maybe next one.
I did see your Kitfox on Smiley Creek webcam.:)

I don't know what happened to the SPOT tracking. It showed up after I got home! I'll try to test it before I go off to Idaho again next week end.

I'll watch for a post here of the Spot link or email me.
Smiley Creek sounds like a great place to be in mid July.
