Hi all
I'm building a KF-IV 1200 that I got second hand. The kit came with a Rotax 912 FWF package.
I recently got a Rotax 912iS brand new. does anyone have any experience with the iS?
Will the engine mount fit?
I'm sure I don't need all the parts in the 912iS FWF package KF is offering but what part do I need?

I think this is going to be a John Mcbean subject.

These are so new, he's the only one whose done an install of this motor on a Kitfox...

Sitting here at Gary's Oyster Bar near Sun N Fun. I showed the post to my Kitfox guru friend and his answer was "Won't fit".

Maybe not with an oem kit (today), but if it can be done and recorded, it's a moneymaker!!

John has a ring mount for the IV that should fit, but the stock cowl will have to be extended forward. Not a big challenge. I did it on my current IV. I mounted the top and bottom cowls as far forward as possible and added a couple of in inches of glass to the aft to the ring cowls.

I am out of the country on business.. We all know anything can be done.. Putting the iS on the Model IV will be difficult and there is a lot to consider. Ring mounts are easy and the cowlings can be done but effects on W&B, where to locate fusebox, ECU, Fuel Pumps, etc.. Not impossible by any means but
trust me, there is more to that install then meets the eye.

Thank you for the input, John. Your experience with the 912iS install to an SS will be invaluable if this project continues and I hope it does.

CG issues and strategic placement of battery, pumps, and other specific equipment will, most definitely, be important

Thanks for your replays
My plan is to put the pumps behind the seats next to the header tank and put all the electronic boxes on the cold side of the firewall so I can put the engine as close to the firewall (for CG reasons).
I have the round cowl so it won't be a tight fit.
Hope it will work.
Thanks again

Remember, The engine mount with the oil tank in back (regular round cowl model IV mount) will not work with the iS motor. The intake manifolds can't be reversed for clearance. Highwing mentioned a "Ring" mount, converting to that is not an option.

I believe the 912is comes with the ring mount installed just as my
914 did. The new mount will interface with the Rotax ring. W&B
can be taken care of by placement of accesories. The model 4
with 220 pounds of radial required the battery and 5 pounds of lead
at the back. The plane still flys very nicely. The 912is install should
be much easier to achieve correct W&B. I think this type of conversion
will be very popular in places with very high fuel prices. Please keep
us updated on your project.

Hi all
The engine I got came with a ring mount. The engine mount I got with the kit won't fit the engine.
Installing the engine with the ring mount will mean moving the engine forward about 4" (in front of the foot wells) and this will move the CG forward by approximately 1.5". I think this is doable.

After searching this forum in the classified part I ran across this engine mount for a KF-7. Will it fit my KF-4?
My engine came with a similar ring mount attached to it.
I'd rather get one from a professional than make it myself.
