I have a 6 that I am in test flight stage. My right wing tank cap leaks when I have it over half full. The neck of the tank is flat with no dents or irrigularities. THe gasket looks fine, but is very hard. Are they supposed to be hard or plyable? And can I purchase a replacement gasket? Maybe better or thicker? Where?

There was a thread on here about a month ago about mercedes seal, blue in color is all I remember. I'll look some more. Eddie:) And they can't seal if they are hard.

Years ago I was told about the Mercedes-Benz part that cured the leaking fuel cap problem. I ordered them from my local Mercedes dealer, installed them after a little tweaking of the fuel cap tabs ( the blue seals are thicker than the originals) ,problem solved. They are about 9 years old and look like new. I can't remember anymore what the part was for on the Mercedes but as far as I know they may still be available.

I don't know what the cost is on the Mercedes units, but I replaced the gaskets on my caps with Cessna 150 gaskets at a cost of $20 for the pair. This solved my leak issues. I was able to buy them right at my local FBO.

I followed DF4's advice about a year ago by visiting my local Mercedes Benz dealer where I left about ten dollars and walked out with a pair of those true-blue, leak-proof goodies. :)

Nice people there, so sad...that was probably the last time I'll ever see them! ;)

Went to the auto parts store, bought a sheet of gasket material cut out
two using the old gaskets as a pattern with xacto knife, have had no leaks
in over 5 years. Not neccessary to buy mercedes parts in my opinion, plane
old gasket material works perfectly fine ...
