I'm wondering what needle position everyone is running in their 80 hp 912. I've been chasing a miss in my 912ul at cruise power. Not a big miss but just enough that you can feel it from time to time. I've synched the carbs and checked the pluggs etc. but no luck. I called Lockwood today and the tech there advised me to change the needle position on the carbs to #2 from #3. He was pretty sure the engine was running rich. All the research I've done talks about the needle being in the #3 position but the tech was pretty confident about what he was saying about moving it to position#2. Anyone else using #2 ?

thanks,

We just had a conversation of sorts about this issue my friend is having. Make sure your carb vent tube is in the proper location. His missed at cruise RPM and once we placed it correctly it fixed all his issues... Not saying this is your issue but worth a second look...

I thought I'd fix it when I ran my vent tubes into the air filters but the miss is still there

Hi,
I tried the number 2 position with my 912uls, I noticed slightly higher egt's

still below 1400's when cruising. I remember watching the gauges closely

and not seeing a whole lot of difference.

I did notice some changes on runup - mag drops that I didn't like, and

some high egt's on #2 cylinder during mag tests, so I switched back to

position 3. I believe mag drops were around 200rpm+ and not close to

equal. I think the egt went as high as 1500 on #2 cylinder.

If you are fully gauged with egt , cht, then trying it and watching your

gauges close, I think its worth a try.

Hi there, i have had exactly the same problem. Very random and at cruise revs. I suspected too lean a mixture and raised the needles a notch. Fixed the problem. Left the setting like that for a while then went back down a notch. Same problem again so reset to the rich possition....no probs since...cheers.

latest update. Upon pulling the carb needles out I discovered that they were set in the #2 position. I changed them to the #3 slot and the miss has gone away ! I probably need to re-synch the carbs now after messing around with them but so far it is much smoother. I also was able to get my radio sorted out to where the tower could actually hear me. It's been a good day....
