My condolences to the families.

This site:
http://aviation-safety.net/wikibase/wiki.php?id=146541
mentions "apparent engine problems on takeoff"
The FAA registry says it had a Rotax, but not what model.

Roberto.

I am the Kitfox 4 pilot who survived the Pearson field crash, loosing my good friend Gary Spark. He was my Kitfox transition instructor.

5 weeks in ICU 3 in a induced comma

Broken,

rt, ankle,

LF knee shattered rebuilt

every vertebra fractured

Smashed removed L1 L2 vertebra

broken neck at c2

multiple fractures in skull

smashed jaw compound fractures, Got a rebuilt jaw

16 ribs

punctured both lungs

had internal swelling so they gutted me to allow room for breathing and circulation, I'm still gutted but have a skin graph covering it till July then they can separate my abdominal muscles and stitch them back together.

I attributed my survival to the robust Kitfox frame and hooker 4 point harnesses.
I am still healing at home the last few weeks

I lost my good friend sadly, I also lost my Kitfox and I miss her

Hi Zorro,

Glad you're able to post and check in here with your people. It sounds like you're doing recovery the hard way. I'm sure being home is a good thing for you. Keep your spirits up and check back in periodically.

Too bad they don't make jigs for people where they could assess the damage, cut out the unusable and weld in some new. Guess you're doing that in a way, but the biological route takes so much longer.

Get well soon!

It always grabs one a little when a brother pilot goes in, even more so "Going West". Hang in there, take it slow and wish you a speedy recovery.
