View Full Version : Safe lift points for float mounting

This has probably been answered before but.. What areas of the plane might you lift or jack a Model I from to suspend the plane while you mount a set of floats. The previous owner said he jacked the plane from under the motor mounts and put the tail on a saw horse. Is it safe to lift the plane from the front spar area of the fuselage?

Hi on all the float planes that I have installed floats you always lift from front spar bolt attach points at that point is where the best balance point is to have plane fairly level

Always tie to a point such as the bolt area or as close to the fusalge attach point as possible not on the wing area

Yes it is the same plane. I picked it up last fall from Eastport, Me.

I have been around a lot of Cessna float installs and they were always lifted from above that way with an eyebolt kit that is installed as part of the float kit. On the Kitfox it appears that maybe a set of straps could be put around the spa frame area and sure would be easier than jacks and blocks and possible fall over if things need be muscled around.

once floats on tail wheel comes off and ventral fin goes on

Once reason is this hangar I did it has only a 7 foot high beam.
Works great.
