New to Kitfox. Picked up a Model1 for float flying and get away from medicals. It has a 582. Are there any suggestions on the oil to use in the injection system or just off the self 2 cycle okay.

I attended the 2-stroke forum by Brian Myerhofer (Leading Edge Airfoils) at Oshkosh last summer. His recommendation was to use Amsoil 2-Cycle HP Injector Full Synthetic oil. He also mentioned it was a bad idea to mix different oils.

AV8R Thanks for the information. A good idea to run out the tank in it before adding any.

I'm about to change brands of oil too and figured I would just mix some of the old and some of the new in a jar and see if they mix or what. It seems to me if there is going to be a problem mixing the two any of the old left in the tank would be a problem.

There is so much anecdotal 2 stroke oil information floating around I get confused in a hurry.

DJF,

There's a 10 mm bolt on the injection pump to drain the system, so you don't have to let it run all the way out.

I use the Amsoil HP injector full synthetic it seems to work well in all the two strokes I have . snowmobiles mostly, one with 8500 miles with no problems.

Thanks for the drain bolt info. Sounds like the amsoil is an okay product.

I can tell you that I got thousands of successfull 2 stroke hours.
What do I use ?
Bombardier XPS mineral oil bought in bulk from Ski doo or Sea doo dealer.
Bring your own container.
582 with oil injection runs Very clean and never decarbon and go 600 to 800 hours then new crank time. I run EGT 1150 to 1200 at crusie 95% of the time. 4 to 6 $ a quart

Or

Castrol Super 2 stroke - API TC rated.
I buy at Walmart in Canada. about $4 a quart I have about 20 2 strokes around farm here that uses this -- Stihl saws , pre mixed Skidoos and Rotax 503 , 532 Premix -- never had an issue in over 30 years.

Synthetic Oils --offer great lubrication but poor storage. cos - no idea
This could cause crank bearing failure premature. If you in dry climate might be better off . Whee I live -- Crank sales are higher :)

6 in snow last night -- Kitfox fun time
