I'm looking at purchasing a ground looped Avid model C heavy hauler.

Unfortunately, it seems I have to come to Kitfox forums to get info on Avids.

Are the dimensions, performance, cabin size, and control, more like a model 2 or 3 kitfox?

Is there any major differences?

Any info helps, and thank you!

One difference that comes to mind right away is the wingspan. Avid's standard wing is 29' 10 1/2", Kitfox is 32'. Also, if I remember right, the Kitfox 2 gross weight is 950 lb, the Kitfox 3 is 1050 lb. The Avid Heavy Hauler gross weight is sometimes listed as 1050, other times as 1150. I think the cabin size is the same on either plane. They both have very simalar airfoils, the Kitfox 4 went to a very different airfoil shape. Avids are nice planes, I've had 3 of them so far and fly my MK IV all the time. Take care,

What a about the vertical tail surfaces size and yaw stability?

Would this be improved over the model 2?

Thanks for the info....

As i understand it, the Avid Heavy Hauler wings are what gets the increase from 1050 to 1150. The OP said it is a Heavy Hauler. Although I have seen an Avid Mk IV that was registered at 1320. Builder sets the gross.

Aaron,
I have a model I and changed the vertical. It was a great improvement. Here is the link: http://www.teamkitfox.com/Forums/showthread.php?t=114

I fly a C model HH with most of the MK IV upgrades. The kitfox II and III will get me in STOL by a few feet every time. I put the F7A mixer arm upgrade on mine and that gets rid of most of the adverse yaw that a KF II has. I put the rounded MK IV rudder on mine before I ever flew it and it has plenty of rudder authority!

I have around 300 Hrs in the KF I and II and really dont have an opinion in one over the other (versus the Avid) other than I can haul more in my HH so I dont have to make as many trips. They fly darn near the same.

Slowly but surely.. Life seems to have given me an opprotunity to focus n the planes again for about the next 13 months or so. I plan on hitting the conversion hard around the end of the month if I get the full 2 weeks off from work.
