Some of you might remember I had an off airport incident about 1 1/2 years ago. The engine seized when it was running at about 3800 rpm. The engine had about 70 hours on it. Tonight I removed the gear box (not as easy as the video says-at least on my engine). In Pics below you will see that the prop shaft is completely sheared. The engine is still seized. I now believe the 180 degree fitting going into the oil pump failed. About 30 minutes after I was down in the soy bean field the fitting started leaking oil out the back side. Therefore air was introduced into the system. At least now I know a little more about what happened. I'm a commercial general contractor and because of this great economy there are no funds to fix this engine. Maybe someday. At least I have my brothers RV-9A to fly to satisfy my aviation adition.
