Southbridge Airport (3B0) a small airport about 30 miles South of me and also in Massachusetts, took a direct hit yesterday by a tornado. I havent personally been there yet but the word is over 30 aircraft were destroyed. A new 6 way T hanger and all its contents were destroyed as well as many of the old hangers. Only a very few aircraft survived, one being a lonely old Cub. The dinner which was a hot spot on the weekends was also badly damaged. We very seldom see the power and devistation tornadoes have up here in the North East and it is sobering. I hope and pray for all those affected by this terrible storm. Pictures can be found by typing Southbridge Airport into Google Images.

Crushing, one of my favorite haunts, a fellow I work with kept his plane there and saw on the news that it wasn't there anymore. I hope they find the strength to rebuild, it's a great little port.

Our airport in Merrill, WI got hit directly by an EF-3 in April. Many of the hangars and aircraft were damaged or destroyed.

The main funnel from this storm missed my home by less than a 1/4 mile, and my hangar was one of only two on the field that did not suffer major damage.

My sympathies to those in Massachusetts. We know what you are dealing with.

Looks pretty ugly. Here is a link to a news video with chopper footage. Notice the cirrus chute didn't save the plane. It looks like alot of totaled planes:(:(

Larry, 1/4 mile? You were lucky.
Southbridge, not so much.

Anyone else got the feeling this will be a year to remember in regards to severe weather?

I Googled tornado proof hangars.
No hangar can protect from a direct hit by a tornado except maybe this kind

Click on Protective Buildings.

If I had to live in Tornado Alley again or hurricane country I think it would be in one of these.
