I am looking at replacing my standard landing gear on my Kitfox IV 1050 with the spring strut gear from HighWing LLC. Has anyone done this? Is it a good upgrade? Any issues. All thoughts and input would be appreciated.

A GREAT upgrade for your aircraft ! I was one of the first guys to install Lowells gear. I have had it for a couple of years now (I think) It was easy to install, everything fit perfectly and what a difference it makes !!!.
The gear spread goes from about 4 ft to 7 ft. Ground handling improves...big time ! Even stability on approach to landing improves (outrigger effect ?)
A great decision on your part!

PS: check out the spring bungee covers I had made(ala: cub)

I would be the other IV Chuck was referring to. By far, this was the best modification I've done to my KF. I am really pleased with the gear.

Birdman,
The aircraft pictured on Lowells website (HighwingLLC) is mine. I have done a couple of mods since that picture. I made a gear to fuselage fairing and some spring boots which I think dress it up even a bit more.
I have had the gear installed over 2 years now and it has made a dramatic difference in ground handling. It's the only way to go in my mind. WELL worth the cost !

Another, more economical version is available through Airdale.

Brett will build them to accept your standard 3/4" axles, brakes and wheels, negating the need to rework/buy these expensive parts. Or he can build them for any other axle/brake option you have.

My neighbor made the spring covers. I think she sent a couple of pairs to Lowell at HighwingLLC also.
