Ski Flying

Did some Ski Flying today with our very own JimS and some other friends. We had a good time. Flew up to a friend's Ice Fishing shack and had a nice lunch then did some lake hoping and grass (snow) strip ski-marking.

Av8... how does the heat work in that plane?... I remember the old Cessnas I used to fly weren't that efficient... kinda like the old VW beetle program... but with a liquid cooled Rotax... is the heat reasonably warm?

Being from Texas I think the best word to describe it is "COOL"

I've got two 4" fans on my heater core. It works much better than the ones I've used in certified planes. Outside temps were in the low 20's and we were comfy in the plane. Kept the coolant and oil temps around 180°.

One of my few chances to use skis here in Dallas Tejas! It must be Global Warming ! ! ! I could put the skis on do a couple of T/O & Landings then put the wheels back on because the snow won't be here long!

Here is the view from my office in Bryan, Texas looking south. Took me 1 hour to drive in which normally takes 20 minutes. 4 Wheel drive the entire trip. Wrecks everywhere. I wonder what Al Gore thinks about this global warming? I never thought I would have to say this but I have to wait until it warms up so I can paint my wings. Just doesn't sound right living in Texas.

He's too busy molesting massage therapists to care. What I can tell you is that we have temps in the 50's here in the NW and our snowpack is terrible. What started out as an incredible snow year totally fizzled and I have been logging more sunny days in the Cub than on the mountain by a long shot. So....it's always global warming somewhere.

It is strange. I was in Lake Tahoe last year right around the beginning of December and you couldn't buy snow there. The locals said it was very abnormal. While I was away, we had 4 inches back home. Kind of weird that I flew 1000 miles to snow ski and technically never had to leave home. The weather forcasters here said that this weather cycle is very similiar to the 1989 era, the last time it snowed here. During that same period of time, the northern states logged less than usual snowfall as well. Maybe it is just cyclic weather thing?

We've been having some good days around here too. A few mountain top landings have been working out well. But in some of the low lands to the north they barely have any snow. That is pretty crazy since the Canadian Border is about 35 miles away.

Here we go again. It has been 30 years (1978) since we have had this bad of weather in North Texas. It started about 8:00 AM here in Garland, looking at the weather cams around town, HEAVY Ice & Snow near McKinney north of Dallas. I need some of those Skis

In McKinney it is 16 Degrees, Garland 19 Degrees with a low of 14. We are not accustom to this, I'm originally from South Texas where 30 Degrees is about the worst you will see. We are probably going to have rolling black out again!

65 and bright sunny skies here Paul. Should be in the mid 70's by the weekend here in Phoenix. I would think it's got to get over your way pretty quick. Hang in there.

Those Green Bay & Steelers fans brought all of the Cold C _ _ p to North Texas! It should be in the 70s this weekend here as well, we just have to survive this Cold C _ _ p!
