I'm about to install my fuel tank fittings, and I may have tapped them a little too far. The screen fitting seems a little too loose to me for using the Permatex gasket dressing and sealant that was included in the kit. I was expecting the sealant to have the consistency of thin toothpaste, but instead it has the consistency of pancake syrup. I think I need something thicker and with more substance.

Is there any reason I can't use Permatex #2. It's also non-hardening and is resistant to gasoline, oil, and grease. It seems like just what I need to help tighten things up.

Have you talked to the factory?

I would hesitate using Pematex 2 without talking to them.

It might be possible to partially fill the holes with some resin and retap the holes, but you need to make sure you use the correct material that is compatible with fuel.

This stuff has much more of a thick paste consistency. Their high-fill version might do the trick for you.
