View Full Version : Why oil runs out when pulling the magnetic plug 912ULS

This view of the front end of the engine with the gearbox removed solved one of the mysteries of life for me. Attached in case anyone else is curious. Basically the magnetic plug is below the drain holes back to the engine crankcase so a pool of oil always covers the bottom of the crankshaft gear (removed in this photo)

Thanks for the post Dave. Curiosity relieved. But, WTH am I doing wrong? I have never had oil run out of that hole. LOL.

The engine shown is the old 1600 hour version 912ULS crankcase. Have to admit that I am not familiar with what the current 2000 hour crankcase looks like inside or if the iS is different.

I think the iS case is different. I was going to use the Edge Performance 35A alternator that mounts in the rear of the engine and when I told them it was for an iS, they said it wouldn't fit cause the case is different. Fits for the ULS and the 914 but not the iS.
