The cowl on my KF Series 5 was totally redesigned by the builder. Only two cam locks near the spinner and held on by piano hinges very similar to Glasair.

I saw your pictures posted elsewhere. Someone put a lot of effort into that cowl (and the plane in general). Looks great with pants on too.

If you don't mind me asking, what is your engine/prop combo and what are you getting for cruise speed?

Thanks for the compliment!

It's fitted with a Rotax 912 ULS and 70" Warp Drive Prop.

A couple days ago on a very calm day it easily cruised at 115 mph at 4900 rpm, BTW the wheel pants gained it about 5 mph.

It looks like your wingtips have either been swapped or heavily modified as well. Good looking airplane!

The stock ones weren't added, this is a very simple mod. Cover the wings clear over the last rib and cut a rib shaped portion from light stock. Paint, mount the wing tip lights, and screw them on.

I like it. My wingtips were made pretty badly in the first place, then the first builder made a mess of them, so they would need extensive work. This looks like a handy solution.

How much wingspan is lost? I seems you would lose at least 2 feet.

I would have to measure my Hoerner tips but you're probably pretty close. That, and the Hoerner add effective span by design (1/3 of their length I think) so actually it is more than 2' for sure.

That said I don't hate the flat plate he's showing here. Simple and I would imagine light also. My tips are not poorly made but they are quite heavy at about 3.75# each.

I would guess you are correct by losing two feet in length but just how effective are those two feet in generating lift? Here is a good article on end plates and how they effect wing performance.
