I am not planning on connecting my statics port but leaving it open behind the panel (this is the way it was on my vari-EZ). Have others done this and/or are there know issues?

Dorsal, lots are done this way. My model 4 is right on using this "system".

From what I've heard this is the more reliable accurate method...

The little filter is a must on the stub end of the static line.
