Hello all, I am rebuilding a Model 3 with a 582 and need to buy an auxilary fuel pump. What do you all use? Facet model ____? Thanks.

Steve,

Although I am running a 912; and, not a 502, I am using a 40105 model facet for backup and (ocasional) priming. Aircraft Spruce has a pretty good chart showing the characteristics of the various Facet models. The major issue is not to get a pump which would provide a fuel pressure greater than what the engine model will tolerate. In my case, I went for the 40105 because its pressure rating was 3-4.5 psi which is within the specification for fuel pressure on a 912. I have also tested the engine line pressure with the mechanical pump alone and with the mech pump and facet together and found a very small/insignificant rise in pressure with both pumps functioning and certainly remaining within the engine specification.

Dave, perfect. Thank you. I was also concerned about the fuel pressure for the two Bing carbs.

Hello Steve,
I too had the same question that you have. Here is what I have found. Facet 60245, 1.5-4 psi, in line, no check valve.

On the 582 there is a way to use a pump with the check valve. The benefit is that replacement are cheap and available at most any auto parts store. A bit later I can put a picture of how it works.
