Where do you drill a hole?

I don't have a picture but towards the bottom, below where the floorboard would hide the wires.

I have the wires coming out of my sticks just above the stub that they mount to, which is just below the wood boards. I drilled the holes on the inboard side of each stick and used a very small rubber grommet in the hole to protect the wiring.
I also put in quick disconnect plugs in case I wanted to remove the sticks, which only takes about 2 minutes. I have taken them out several times.

Here is the only picture I could find. This is the copilots stick viewed from the front side.
