What is involved in a converstion of my model 3? I
hope I can keep my existing bump cowlings? Or do they
need modified?

Engine mount obviously... but what provisions? I
hope I don't have to change/hack appart my existing
cowlings too badly. Same propeller work as my 582?

Please let me know, any photos of such an upgrade
would be appreciated too!

Wild,
I have a 912 80hp in my model I and use the original round cowl. No problem.

You will need a new prop. 582 prop is left hand. 912 is right hand.

Just change the motor mount and go? (relatively speaking)?
Was there no changes to your bump cowl? no recesses or cutting?
(I CAN do these things, just want to know what I will have
to do when the day comes). I'm eyeballing a 912 so just
trying to get a fairly close laundry list of tasks required.

Thanks!

alls I can think of is motor mount,..prop,.. and tail weight for weight and balance,.. the cash for the 912 and the motivation to do it :)

how many hours on your 582? blue or grey head? might be able to sell it here on the forum

Are the 912 motormounts the same in the Model 3 as Model 4? I have found a Model 4 912 mount I can buy I think and want to know if it will bolt in.

Is there a conversion guide somewhere for Kitfox 3's? I searched the forum here and couldn't find much for details on converting.

Thanks!

I'm thinking the 4 mount might be a little different ,..
if there isn't any posts on the subject
I'd give John or Deb a call,.. they could give you the knowledge of the differences,..the model 4 itself went thru some changes in structure,..1050 to 1200 ,..not sure if the differences included the motor mount or not, do you know what model ..1050 or 1200 the model 4 mount is you have found? just in case :)

Hello Wild-
I recently bought a model 4. It came with a 912-89. No records with tis engine so I ;m going to either have a 912 mechanic tear it apart to start with a 'starting point' or trade it in for a new one. Real pricy though. I have a few photos of this mount for the model 4,however it needs work. I need two of the rear sections of the cowling. John has these in stock. Can't figure weather it needs more money or work to get her up in the air again. I live in Southern part of New Jersey. -Lion8

yes if you have photos or measurements of your 912 mount for the
Model 4 that would be awesome. Thanks!

I helped with a friends conversion - Model IV-1050 - from 582 to 912. We used the same cowl but had to add about an inch an a half to the aft edge of the ring cowl. Regarding the 1050 to 1200 the difference is in the carry through at the lift strut attachment point and the diameter of the lift strut tubing along with increasing the area of the vertical tail. My buddy is currently finishing a 1050- his third Model IV and I am on my second 1200.
