Hello, I posted a question in another spot but it didn't get any responses so I'm posting it here (sorry for the repost).

In the latest Trent Palmer video (here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xYJucQEfx_k&t=107s)) there was a brief mention about how the CubCrafters wing is ~180 square feet and the Kitfox wing is significantly less. While I don't want to get into the kitfox vs cub debate, I'd like to know what the opinions are here between the cub airfoil and the kitfox airfoil. I can find very little information regarding the STI wing other than it is a "modified Riblett". What are different properties between the two? Does the STI airfoil compensate adequately for the smaller wing area (as compared to a cub). Would the kitfox benefit from having more wing area? Would a cub benefit from having a riblett wing?

Also, does anybody know the empty weight of Trent Palmer's FreedomFox? I'd like to know what to expect from a S7 STI with a 915, shocks and 29" tires.

Sorry for the all the questions. Thanks in advance.

Tucker

Tucker,

I don't know Trent's exact weight, but do remember him stating what it was on a video upon completion of his engine swap (? Sept-Oct of '18). Perhaps someone out there knows which video. You may want to contact Harlan (FarmFox) as he is building an STi with a 915 & CS prop right now. He may have some specifics for you in a little while.

Kitplanes has two relevant articles that you might find interesting. In the article the sti is said to have a wing with a customized under camber airfoil. I don't know if this is based off of a riblett airfoil or if it's origins come from a NACA airfoil.

I think Trent's plane was around 930 lbs.

That was before he put the MT on there, don't forget.

True, forgot about that. Interesting, in his latest video he's got a different prop.

I am aware of a STI with 915is and CS prop at 969# on 29s and bush gear.

Creepin into Titan/Lyc territory.

Although Trent compared the wing area of the two aircraft. The important difference would be the wing loading (pounds per square foot). You could calculate this using gross weight and the statistics on the website for both the Kitfox and Carbon Cub.
