I discovered a large crack near the top of my 912uls ignition housing. It has 850 hours and has been running very smooth and trouble free all that time. Not sure how long it may have been there.

Has anyone else had this happen? Is it common?
What could cause this to happen?
How big a pain is it to remove and replace the ignition housing? Special tools, expertise?

Any knowledgeable comments or experience would be appreciated.2452324524

Wow! That sucks! I just got done helping a friend change the sprag in his S7 Rans with a ULS. Not terrible job but the motor has to come off.

Thanks Dave, those links are very helpful.
Still trying to decide whether to do it myself or send the engine out.
If I send it out, any recommendations for West coast area?

I like my Rotax repair guy. He recently left CA Power Systems. He is located in Torance CA, basically LA. I can PM his contact if CA is good for you Jim.

Jim Scott, owner of AIRCORE AVIATION, 360 815-2512, at the Arlington, WA. airport, KAWO, has been at the Rotax engine repair business for many years. Has done many ignition housings including mine on the Rotax 912is due to a service bulletin which required replacement of the housing due to wire size problems. Vey fair prices.
