I need to lift my plane on Grove Gear to swap in some new tires. My floor jack can't fit tight enough to lift things up and my bottle jack is a bit to tall. What are you using to lift a tire off the ground?

Engine hoist.

Dave, pop over to Bill U. (model 4 1050 Kitfox) hangar. He’s in possession of an attachment that goes on the Grove gear that will allow you to use your bottle jack and securely lift your Kitfox. I’m sure he’ll let you borrow it.

I've used a 2x4 that is long enough to go from under one axel to under the other one.. Then a hydraulic floor jack under the 2x4 and close to the tire I want to lift. That was with a standard gear, but the same idea should work with the grove gear. If I wanted both wheels off the ground, block up the high side with wood blocks, and move the jack to the other side. (or use 2 floor jacks) JImChuk

On the Grove aluminum gear there is very little area to get a jack under like in your picture. There also is many times a brake fitting to deal with on the bottom of the gear which reduces that area even more. Also as it raises, the gear wants to spring inward making it even more precarious. We have a fitting that wraps around the gear leg making a very stable jack point.

My Kitfox doesn't have the grove gear, but my Sonerai has an aluminum slab gear. What I do on it is just c-clamp a piece of 2x4 to the inside of the gear leg and jack on that. The bottom edge of the 2x4 is beveled to make it parallel to the floor so a jack pad has a nice flat to jack against. No picture but here is a cartoon.

Here's what I did. Similar to others.

Quick and dirty means that was inspired by the pricey metal ones that AS&S sells. Chock the other wheels.

Stick and Rudder had this thing. I ended up making one out of steel pipe and pipe fittings and welding it together so it didn't spin. Works great.

That is a very simple and safe device for raising one wheel at a time on a Grove gear equipped Kitfox Joe. 👍

I need to make one of those.
