Default Mod. IV rudder spring question

I guess the good news is the fuel primer line is replaced and not leaking. But I noticed that the rudder return springs are not the same length. One is really stretched out. Are these Kitfox only items? I was at the local hardware store looking for a towel hook and checked out the spring selection as well without success.

The rudder springs should be the same length, yours may be strained or someone's rudimentary attempt at a rudder trim?their only real job is to keep some tension on the rudder cables.Any springs of equal tension that allow full and free movement of the rudder pedals would be fine. Some aircraft just use bungee cord.

That's what I thought. I find them either too short or of too heavy a spring tension. I have two more hardware stores to check this morning, then I'm out of luck.

Or try your local auto parts store (in the aviation section of course)

Menards had some in the aircraft section. Works good.
