    Default Elevator back pressure?

Thanks for the comments Paul - still some way to go but getting there!

A question for those of you with 7's. With Jono being here with his model 4, I noticed that his stick was a lot 'freeer' than mine when pulling back on the ground (elevator up movement). it is not stuck - if I pull it back fully and let the stick go it flops forward by itself but I have thought since installing and rigging according to the book that there is a little more force needed to move the elevator to the fully back position than I would have expected. I am wondering if this is common with the model 7 with the larger elevator or should I be looking to achieve a pretty well effortless movement back? its not THAT hard and I was thinking that with airflow over it the effect will probably be neutralised? Thoughts, experiences?

    cheers

On my last two 7's I've used the spring assist kit. (9034-sp). Really lightens up the elevator, which is much heavier than the model 4.

HI Phil - I wasn't even aware of there being a spring assist kit! thanks for the tip - I will investigate.

    cheers

I just looked at the catalogue - can you tell me how it works? is it a difficult job to retrofit?

    cheers

It is a very easy job Ross. You can do it after the fact. Just a little Hysol and some clamps.

Thanks Scott - I will put it on the order I have coming! I was starting to think that I had got something wrong with the rigging.

    cheers

Ross, disconnect your elevator and move the stick. You should have no resistance. If you do, take off your bearing block and sand it.

I flew an Aztec that had an extremely heavy elevator until the power was put in

Hi Josh - yes, I am going to disconnect at the elevator attach point and try.

Great to see you making good progress again! Covering yet?

Ditto on the elevator spring assist kit option. I got the feeling from this forum that most of the SS7 builders were using the spring assist.

I received my kit a while back and I did not know anything about this. I don't remember any discussion with John or Debra about this option or need for this. If it is not on John's plane I'm not sure it is needed as I flew his plane, it is sweet to fly. However if it is on his than I want it!

It's on John's Kitfox. Probably on more SS7s than not. John has so many neat things on his Kitfox it probably slipped his mind.

    Nice option. Very easy install.

It's been discussed a couple of times in these forums but some time back. Sorry you missed it Jim and sorry we didn't bring it up earlier.

Call John and get it ordered. He should have them on the shelf. I need to order one myself but as mentioned, they can be installed anytime during or after the build.
