Lexan (PC) has been used, but acrylic is harder and more scratch resistant, resistant to fuel spills, somewhat more optically clear, and stronger although more brittle.

Congrats on the job change Josh, nice to meet you at OSH. And thanks for the intro to Aaron, I spoke with him again on Fri. to provide particulars for one of my projects.

    Hello everyone,

My course seems to have a bit of ebb and flow between exams so I am thinking I can start picking away at the kitfox a little bit.

Has anyone not riveted the triangle windows in with luck? I am thinking about just using silicone to pop them in so the rivet heads aren't going to show as it's already painted. I think it would be strong enough even when slipping but I thought I would ask for some real world experience.

Why not use machine screws?? Easy to replace if needed and no need to drill anything. 6-32 should be way strong enough. Could probably even countersink them if you are concerned about drag...

I mounted mine with (3) 10-32 screws into threaded tabs.

I mounted the glass into the aluminum frames with 6-32 screws, through the glass to a backing plate of aluminum sheet, with nyloc nuts.

This is my pitot tube, but you can see the window in the background.

I plan on gluing mine in...... either silicone or pro-seal. Either way, I plan on having no visible fasteners.

I like that setup on the triangle windows. On mine they were stitched into the fabric and I have to remove the fabric in that area when I install the wide body modification. I didn't know how I was going to get new ones in. Now I'm going to do it the same as you did.

I used 3M VHB tape on mine and they're still there after 200 hrs.

I used the tape too. That's what John told me they do at the factory.
