The equipment list is a great idea and a time saver down the road. I also made a 3 ring binder and put dividers in there for airframe, engine, avionics, etc. Any original paper documents that came with parts went in there. I have the binder handy when I do maintenance.

The other thing I would suggest is to build a set of all the digital documents that are available for your airframe, engine, avionics, wiring diagrams, prop, insurance, FAA, Operation Limitations, etc. You can always scan important stuff as a PDF documents. I have a folder on my home computer and one on the iPad that goes with the plane when I fly (my 2nd screen). That way I always have copies of maintenance/installation manuals, troubleshooting information, etc. in case I a problem away from home. I try to make sure I get any updates annually, usually when prepping to do the condition inspection.
