    Default Questions for Canadian builders

Hi, After years of dreaming about building my own aircraft the time has finally come and I have decided on the Kit Fox! I am located in northern Canada (Yellowknife) and have a few questions for other Canadian builders.

    - How was the purchase process regarding shipping costs, taxes, duties and customs charges?

    - How has your experience been with Transport Canada during the certification process?

    - How does the inspection process work for amateur-built aircraft and at what stage in the build are they required?

    Thanks in advance!

Hey Jared. I’m in Edmonton. If you ever find yourself here, you’re welcome to pop buy. I imagine shipping to YZF will be a little wild!

I bought my kit when I lived in Ontario. PST and GST. No duty on aircraft parts.

You won’t deal with TC at all. Just the MDRA. The MDRA website will have all the info you are looking for.

You’re going to have to start your build with a letter of intent, then a precivee inspection (which I think is BS on a fabric plane), and a final inspection for your temp airworthiness certificate

There is a kitfox for sale in Niagra Falls on this sites classfieds. Would jump all over it if I were. No duty. Plus steep discounts. Better than paying 35k USD

That's a great deal and no border or exchange issues.
    Go for it.

Thanks for the info. So the only extra cost once it crosses the border is tax? that's not to bad. I am looking at the one for sale in Niagara as we speak. As much as I want to build one from the ground up this is very tempting!

If you're serious, jump on that one for sale. All the things you may really want to customize to make it your own are yet to be done (paint, panel, engine). The discount is enough to pay for your panel and then some. Plus, and a whole lot of work already done for you. If you wait, it will be gone.

I agree with what everyone says. The purist in you will want to start from scratch but this is a great deal and will get you flying fast! Believe me. You will still learn that plane intimately. Also no waiting for back ordered the planes! I only a wish a Canadian deal was around when I started...

I too am tempted of the one in Niagra.

Not the best time right now, and the fact I have a good model 5.

But I would like to build one and I have an engine for it. I don't think it will be for sale long.

If I wasn`t so "long in the tooth" I would be heading East right now!!
Having a Vixen to play with and a "project" in the works would be great!
    Have fun
