Default Grove Gear installation for a Model IV Speedster

    Hi All,

I'm about to pull the trigger on converting my standard bungee gear to the Grove gear. I have a Model IV Speedster with a 80hp Rotax. I plan to run 600x6 tires and really haven't decided to go with wheel pants or not. Your thoughts on this?

A big question I have is: Will the radiator scoop that is currently installed interfere with the grove gear installation or will it have to be modified? Also, will the coolant radiator also interfere and that also be relocated forward?

Pictures show the two brackets (center & forward) and the scoop extending 3" past the forward bracket as measures from the rear of the bracket. Your thoughts on this?

    Paul,
It looks like you will need to move the radiator and shroud forward. As you likely know, the gear is one piece and will pass through the space between the two mounting tabs in each side.

My first Model IV, not a Speedster, but had some of the mods. Note the horizontal cross piece of the Grove Gear passes across aft of the shroud.

OK, so the Scoop and Radiator have to move Forward!

How/where do I Mount the Scoop and the Radiator on, are there any mounting ponts or did anyone make modifications for the relocation?

If so, Pictures would be appreciated.

    Marc,
The shroud and radiator are attached to the wood floorboard with bolts that pass through tubular spacers to support the two components just at the level of the fabric. This airplane doesn't have the shroud so all you see in the picture are the heads of the bolts that support the radiator. This was standard mounting practice per the builder's manual.

Grove gear installed! Pretty easy and straight forward. Didn't have to move the radiator shroud. Only cut sides of the shroud to allow the gear to install. Thanks for the comments and help.

    Cool, great looking!

Can you post some more close-up pictures from the shroud area?

Paul, that is one outstanding looking Kitfox no matter the gear under her. BTW, you will love the Grove.
