The closest I have got is a Parkzone Sport Cub that we are building articulated bush gear for. All electric, 54" wing w/ separate flaps and ailerons.
We have been working to get one done for some time now.. they should be available this year.. Hopefully within the next couple months.:D
You surprised me John. What size are we talking about?
I was even thinking of making the wings fold and a miniature trailer to be pulled by a rc truck.
I have made a few attempts at some small scale replicas of my Series 5 Outback, and while I am happy how they turned out, I realized that flying them was not feasible primarily due to final weight. When scaling down to the small sizes that I built , the Aerodynamics change and even though , I upsized the empennage and wing they did not want to fly. I went all electric for the motors, they sure taxi nice and make nice shelf displays. The first photo is the real thing and the others are the models. I am currently working on the third one that I think will be the one that finally flies.
That is a cool looking model! Just not enough power with the electric motor? I think if you would get rid of that full IFR panel you could lose a lot of weight! ;)
Airlina, very nice! And i like your dedication to multiple attempts to get it right. I started this thread because i was hoping someone else did the legwork. I'll have to wait and see what John M comes up with.
what is your scale size?
the model looks good. I'm surprised there was not one out there yet.
I've been toying with the idea of making a 1/4 scale Kitfox with folding wings and a gas engine. What slows me down is the thought of welding up a scale fuselage, I wouldn't want to make a scale Kitfox fuselage out of sticks of wood, it just wouldn't be right.
I haven't researched the airfoil to see how the actual KF airfoil would work scaled down. It might be better to use a proven RC airfoil that provides good slow flight characteristics. You could change the airfoil without loosing the scale appearance.
John McB, do you need some help with your model? I was into RC building and flying for many years. I've done gas, glow & electric powered planes from small foamies to 1/4 scale size. I would love to see what you have sometime.
Ken, to give you an idea on the size of my first 2 models , here they are next to a yardstick. The wingspan on the small one is only 18" and then the next attempt I built bigger with a 32" wingspan.
John, even though I know you were joking about the IFR panel, you aren't too far off of the problem. I have always loved to build my models with scale details (the instrument panel you are referring to is actually a picture of the panel from my full scale Kitfox, scaled down to fit ) and I put a full cockpit in both models which of course adds weight. Also I built them with doors that open , which made that center section over the gear way too weak for the rigors of flight because they are made out of balsa. The one I am working on now is a 40 inch wingspan that will have less detail and more strength. what they call standoff scale. I am anxious to see what Mr. Mcbean is developing.
Ok, I nearly had a Coke come out my nose when John replied. So close to the so frequent "we have those in stock". LOL
Eddie
Yes, I was kidding of course, but your models are really neat... I love the details. I grew up building model airplanes - hand-launched gliders, rubber band, free flight, control line, and R.C. Built a couple of radios in the early days of pulse, escapements etc., then Heath Kit and finally King and others when I had a little more "disposable income" (my wife got a teaching job). I've got a couple of electric park flyers in various stages of completion floating around my workshop right now. I don't even think about that... gotta' get my Kitfox flying!
I guess many of us had our start in RC models; I sure did. I still have these two models. The Noorduyn Norseman float plane is my favorite (you can see the close resemblance to my Kitfox color scheme). It is 85" wingspan powered by a Saito 100 4-stroke glow engine. The other model is a scratch built from plans American Eagle A129 biplane; 60" wingspan powered with Saito 72 4-stroke glow. Right after building and flying the American Eagle I jumped into full size and bought my Kitfox kit, and have never looked back.
WOW, Jim, those are really nice!
Spectacular Jim , hard to tell they are not full scale well done!
I second the last 2 comments!
Thanks. I'm just glad one thing led to another until I had to build a Kitfox.
Not really a scale model, but a friend of mine painted up a funcub to look like my Kitfox III.
Matt
I just bought some Peanut Scale sized plans with the hope of blowing up to the 50" to 60" range. Looks like a simple flat sided build. The only hard part will be the ailerons.
Found a couple of pictures.. These should be available in March if all goes well. We hope to fly one soon to make any final tweaks.. They are being made overseas and are almost ready to fly (ARF)
That does look very nice. I was hoping for a non-ARF. I wanted to build it and i especially wanted to paint it my colors.
Mr. McBean, very nice looking model. May be jumping the gun but, would interested in any details you may have on that little kitfox such as wingspan/materials/motor. It does, of course, need much bigger wheels/tires for off-airport operations! :D
Yep, needs tundra tires. It can be scuffed and painted I'm sure. Regardless, put me down for at least one. If the price is right I'll buy one for my dad as well. Seriously, put me on the list. Need a deposit?
Jay
edit: Should have made it with a round cowl!
Leave it to Lowell. He'll have a round cowel and a turbine engine mounted.
;)
I agree, they put tail wheels on the mains :D
No turbine engine needed. Just an underpowered brushless motor to mimic the 582.
Found on ebay. Looks like the one John showed. Just ordered one.
I have recently been searching for a quality RC KitFox. The good news is I have found one and purchased what is called a short kit The vendor actually has three sizes, 1/4 scale 1/3 and 50% of full size. I have the 1/3 (10.66 foot wing span) ordered. A short kit has all of the specialty items, wing ribs formers, firewall, sides, all laser cut. Cowl is included landing gear is available. I chose to have one made of aluminum in the US. The stock items, balsa wood etc. are available at Hobby shops or on line. The short kit cost me USD $373.14. Shipped to Texas. This is a fair price.

This model was designed in South Africa and the kit is produced in Holland.
I need to explain that this is quite a project and not suitable for an inexperienced modeler. I should have the kit in about 10 days,He has them in stock. If there is any interest please post or e mail me.

Sounds like you need to start a 'build-thread' for the rest of us to enjoy! I have pretty much sold out to the electric powered foam plane market. The convenience and quick repairs won me over.
Ramos.....I just might do a mini build thread on this model KitFox. More on major steps rather than blow by blow. Here is a build thread from Holland. I actually had to join FB just to view this. Use the translate button for some of the posts. Videos are nice also.
